Amaechi's selection comes after he emerged runner-up in the ADC presidential primaries, with the party citing his decades-long political career and extensive governance experience as key factors behind the decision.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election, setting the stage for what the party describes as a formidable "rescue mission" to wrest power and rebuild Nigeria.

The announcement, made by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, followed what he described as extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth groups, women stakeholders and representatives from across Nigeria's geopolitical zones.

In a statement released on Monday, the ADC declared that the Atiku-Amaechi alliance represents the coming together of "two tested statesmen" capable of confronting Nigeria's worsening economic crisis, insecurity and governance challenges.
