MEPs in Strasbourg will vote on Tuesday on whether to lift the Italian politician's parliamentary immunity
Some politicians reinvent themselves. Others simply endure. Fulvio Martusciello, the veteran Forza Italia MEP who is the subject of a Belgian investigation connected to Huawei lobbying activities, belongs to the second camp.
But the Italian lawmaker is now facing one of the toughest fights of his political life.
On Tuesday, MEPs in Strasbourg will vote on whether to lift his parliamentary immunity, allowing Belgian prosecutors to pursue their investigation into lobbying activities linked to the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei.
Martusciello, who leads the European People’s Party’s Italian delegation, has not been charged with any crime and denies wrongdoing.
