The UK's best pier for 2026 has been revealed, beating 62 other promenades across the country, as voted for by the National Piers Society08:45, 15 Jun 2026The UK boasts stunning piers dotted along its coastline, but only one has been crowned the very best for 2026, promising a 'world of entertainment' for everyone who steps foot on it.No seaside town feels complete without a pier — one of the Victorians' finest contributions to tourism — delivering fun for the whole family alongside sweeping sea views. If there's a surefire way to keep children entertained during a coastal outing, it's a trip to the pier, brimming with arcades, candyfloss and fairground rides, and this particular one appears to be an absolute must-visit.Each year, the National Piers Society holds a competition to determine the nation's finest, as chosen by its members, and this year's champion was the much-loved Britannia Pier in Great Yarmouth. Triumphing over 62 other promenades nationwide, the Norfolk gem secured the coveted crown, and with fresh ownership and significant investment, it's easy to understand why.The present owners have undoubtedly left their stamp on the attraction since acquiring it in 2022 and pledging £2.2 million towards a continuous investment scheme.Their ambition is to restore the Great Yarmouth landmark to the splendour it enjoyed when it first opened during the Victorian age, through sheer dedication and hard graft.Originally built in 1858, the Great Yarmouth pier has enjoyed quite a storied existence as one of Britain's earliest Victorian timber-frame promenades, having been demolished and reconstructed over the years. It endured demolition, reconstruction and a devastating fire before finally being rebuilt in 1958, and has been welcoming visitors ever since. But the improvements haven't stopped there, with significant investment in recent years paving the way for bigger and better attractions.Today, it's three times its original size and boasts an enhanced entrance facade, alongside new food outlets and rides. Inside, there's no shortage of entertainment, from VR experiences to coin pushers, video games and countless fruit machines. As for rides, you'll find all the classics — dodgems, a carousel, bungee trampolines, giant slides, teacups and a ghost train — but there's plenty more besides. Perhaps most notably, the pier is home to a theatre, one of just five of its kind remaining in the country, as well as an onsite pub. It's within the theatre that the real magic unfolds. The pier isn't solely a family destination either — adults can let their hair down in the evenings, with a packed schedule of live shows, an over-18s casino and two bars plus a nightclub.Article continues belowFrom stand-up comedy to tribute acts, singalongs and theatrical productions, the pier has become a genuine entertainment hotspot in Great Yarmouth, blending traditional seaside charm with modern, forward-thinking attractions. Following a visit last summer, one guest wrote on TripAdvisor that they were "very surprised".They said: "I was not looking forward to seeing the new pier as I was nostalgic for the old style, but good news is, the new pier looks fantastic and has been well renovated; it feels so much more spacious now!"A second visitor added: "A typical British pier. All the things you'd expect: bars, food, funfair, amusements. Worth a visit, lots to do. Nice view."
