With its ever-growing list of candidates, the European Commission is preparing to deploy an AI tool powered by Anthropic's model to short-list them
The EU’s recruitment office can no longer keep up with the number of candidates vying for an EU job, and it is turning to an AI tool powered by US technology to shortlist and rank them.
The pivot to AI follows years of efforts to update the EU’s hiring system with online tests, which led to technical problems and criticism of the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO).
Now, after two years of development, a new AI tool is approaching its final testing phase. If successful, it could be rolled out to a limited group of users as early as this summer, according to a Commission senior official.
The latest EU generalist exam, or AD5, which gives successful candidates access to a sought-after reserve list for permanent civil service posts, attracted 174,922 applications – almost three times the number expected.
