ABUJA — Twenty-three state chairmen of the Accord Party have backed Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, insisting that the primary that produced him was legitimate and reflected the will of party members.

The move comes amid internal disagreements over the conduct and outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, with the chairmen closing ranks behind his candidacy ahead of the 2027 election.

In a joint statement signed by Oladeji Oluwatosin and Jamilu Mohammed, chairmen of the Accord Party in Lagos and Kaduna states respectively, on behalf of their colleagues, the group said its position followed extensive consultations and a collective acceptance of the primary outcome.
