Media personality Daddy Freeze has defended his decision to wear black to the service of songs held in honour of late actor Alex Ekubo, insisting that the actor’s death should be viewed as a tragic loss rather than a moment of celebration.
The service of songs took place in Lagos on June 10, 2026, ahead of Ekubo’s funeral. Guests had been instructed to wear white, a dress code clearly stated on the event invitation. However, Daddy Freeze and his wife attended the event dressed in black, sparking criticism on social media.
Addressing the backlash during an Instagram Live session, Daddy Freeze admitted that he had failed to comply with the dress code but maintained that it was an honest mistake.
“Yes I was wrong to have gone with black, but I honestly did not see that part of the invite, my eyes did not go there,” he said.
