Black Coffee's generosity towards a friend came to the fore during a maintenance application by a celebrity couple.
A celebrity couple locked in divorce proceedings battled it out in court over interim maintenance, with the wife accusing her husband of shortchanging her in interim maintenance while he claims he has fallen on hard times.
The wife, the applicant, said she is used to the good life, but her husband, the respondent, said while once financially secure, he fell on hard times due to medical and other expenses. According to husband, his friend, world-renowned DJ Black Coffee over the years came to their financial rescue.
The wife cannot be named as the matter concerns a maintenance dispute, turned to the Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg to claim maintenance from her husband pending the finalisation of their divorce.
In the opening to the judgment, Acting Judge S Van Asweging commented: “This Rule 43 application concerns two talented musicians who, after confronting significant career setbacks, adapted to a changing music industry and redirected their work to provide for themselves and their son.”
