President Donald Trump celebrated the New York Knicks winning their first NBA championship since 1973 on Saturday night.“Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!! What a year it has been but, even more so, what incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four – Maybe the greatest in the history of basketball,” the president wrote Saturday night following the Knicks’ 94-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs.The Knicks took the series three games to one, with Trump, a longtime fan of the team and friend of owner James Dolan, attending the Knicks’ sole loss in Game 3 earlier in the week and receiving a chilly reception from the Madison Square Garden crowd.
“Also, tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson!” the president continued.
New York City reveled loudly in the win, with video showing massive crowds in the streets of Manhattan. Clashes with police resulted in several arrests, the New York City Police Department said.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a victory parade for Thursday, saying the city had been waiting long enough for a ring.
