For the first time in eight years, Brazil failed to win their opening match at a FIFA World Cup, and while their remarkable unbeaten run in tournament openers remains intact, the five-time champions are under pressure.
A 1-1 draw against Morocco was hardly the statement performance many expected from one of the pre-tournament favourites.
Instead, Brazil looked vulnerable, disjointed and at times fortunate to escape with a point against a disciplined Moroccan side that once again proved why they remain one of the most dangerous teams in international football.
The result may not seem disastrous on paper, but it represents a significant departure from Brazil's proud World Cup tradition. Before Saturday's draw, Brazil had won seven consecutive opening matches dating back to the 1982 tournament.
