Insider Brief

Israel’s Innovation Authority and the Ministry of Defense’s DDR&D have launched a new initiative worth up to NIS 150 million — about $51.4 million USD — to establish advanced integrated photonics infrastructure aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of photonic chips in Israel.

The selected facility will provide end-to-end R&D services — including design, simulation, prototyping, testing, packaging and support for scaling to manufacturing — for companies, startups and academic researchers.

The program seeks to address a critical gap between Israel’s strong research capabilities and limited later-stage development infrastructure, with the goal of strengthening national competitiveness in strategically important semiconductor and defense technologies.

PRESS RELEASE — The Israel Innovation Authority, in collaboration with the Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D/MAFAT) at the Ministry of Defense, has launched a new call for proposals to establish or provide an advanced research and development infrastructure in the field of integrated photonics. The initiative includes an investment of up to NIS 150 million and is designed to accelerate the development of next-generation photonic chips in Israel while expanding access to advanced R&D infrastructure for industry and academia.
