In a statement he personally issued on Sunday, Hamzat said he was aware of what he described as a “malicious and mischievous publication circulating on social media” aimed at associating him with a police-wanted criminal suspect.

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State, Oriyomi Hamzat, has denied allegations linking him to a suspected criminal identified as Surajudeen Adio Babatunde, describing the claims as a malicious attempt to damage his reputation.

In a statement he personally issued on Sunday, Hamzat said he was aware of what he described as a “malicious and mischievous publication circulating on social media” aimed at associating him with a police-wanted criminal suspect.

“My attention has been drawn to a malicious and mischievous publication circulating on social media seeking to drag my name into a criminal matter involving an individual identified as Surajudeen Adio Babatunde, popularly known as ‘Surii Ilupeju,’” he said.

He said he would ordinarily not respond to what he called propaganda but chose to address the issue due to its potential to mislead the public.
