GUWAHATIThe Assam Police’s Crime Branch has begun investigating a case involving some students of two Guwahati-based private schools who circulated digitally altered images of 64 schoolgirls and teachers on social media for a price.The police said a case was registered with the Crime Branch after at least two students allegedly created the explicit content and sold the images of their female classmates and teachers for ₹50 and ₹100.“We have recorded the statements of the principals, counsellors, and the students involved in circulating the explicit content,” Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain told journalists.The person who exposed the deepfake case has been included in the ongoing investigation, Mr. Jain said.The accused students created the explicit content and put it up for sale on the Telegram app, according to reporters.On Friday (June 12, 2026), one of the schools suspended the students behind the incident and referred the matter to the Child Abuse Monitoring Committee and other appropriate panels.In a statement, the school said it has a zero-tolerance policy towards cyber misconduct, bullying, harassment, misuse of digital platforms, and any behaviour that may adversely affect the well-being of students and staff.The school also urged all students and parents to refrain from circulating unverified information or indulging in rumour-mongering.
