In a major push towards sustainable urban development and India’s climate goals, the Andhra Pradesh government, in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), has decided to fast-track the implementation of the Integrated Lighting Management System (ILMS)-based Smart Street Lighting Project across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State.The project, part of the Union government’s Street Lighting National Programme, aims to modernise urban infrastructure through advanced energy-efficient lighting technologies.To review the progress of the initiative, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S. Suresh Kumar, along with Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration P. Sampath Kumar, held a virtual meeting with EESL Chief Executive Officer Akhilesh Kumar Dixit and A.P. State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited (APSEEDCO) Managing Director and CPDCL Chairman and Managing Director P. Pulla Reddy on Sunday.During the meeting, Mr. Suresh Kumar stressed the importance of adhering to the timelines set by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and directed officials to complete the project within six months of signing the agreement. He said timely execution would ensure that the benefits of advanced energy-efficient technologies reach citizens at the earliest.The ILMS-based Smart Street Lighting Project is expected to enhance energy efficiency, improve monitoring and maintenance of streetlights, and contribute to reducing carbon emissions while strengthening urban infrastructure across the State.
