Schools will be closed tomorrow.
As South Africans prepare to mark Youth Day on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, parents and learners are being reminded that schools will also be closed tomorrow, Monday, June 15, 2026, for a special school holiday.
The additional day off means many pupils are currently enjoying a four-day weekend after schools closed on Friday afternoon. Learners are only expected back in class on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The special school holiday, confirmed in the Department of Basic Education's school calendar, falls immediately before Youth Day, giving pupils and teachers two consecutive weekdays away from school.
For many families, the break offers a welcome breather as the second school term enters its final weeks. While the long weekend may feel like the start of the winter holidays, the school term is not yet over.
