The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared a nationwide Black Sunday in memory of victims of insecurity across the country, describing the persistent violence, terrorism, kidnapping and banditry as a national tragedy that has left countless families grieving and communities shattered.

In a message to Christians on Sunday, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said the observance was dedicated to mourning the many Nigerians whose lives had been lost or disrupted by the country's worsening security crisis, including men, women, children, clergy, farmers, students and entire communities.

According to the association, the Black Sunday observance was not only a moment of mourning but also a collective call for urgent action in the face of escalating violence.

“Today, we are not only mourning; we are speaking with one voice. Our nation is bleeding, and the Church cannot remain silent while innocent lives are lost and families live in fear,” CAN said.
