The fire was declared on Friday at 16:01 in the parish of Herbón, in the municipality of Padrón, and continues to spread, with firefighting teams still unable to bring it under control. According to the latest official estimates, the flames have already affected around 330 hectares of land, a figure that has continued to grow in recent hours.

The mayor of Padrón, Anxo Rei Arca, confirmed that the fire has breached the municipal boundary and entered the municipality of Teo, moving in the direction of Vilar do Bispo. This spread into a second municipality is complicating coordination efforts and widening the area at risk for residents.

The settlement of Cruxeiras de Abaixo was fully evacuated after ten homes were deemed to be at risk. The evacuation took place in the early afternoon and, by around 20:00, residents had still not been allowed to return.

Wind and heat complicate the firefighting operation

Although on Saturday morning the fire appeared to be moving towards stabilisation, the high temperatures, above 30°C, and the wind made the situation worse as the day went on. “There is quite a lot of wind, which we didn’t have in winter,” the mayor of Padrón himself said, explaining the fire’s behaviour.
