Bottom Line Up Front

Today’s verdict: Sunday is a comedown with a kick — Brazil escaped their World Cup opener with a flat 1-1 draw and plenty of questions, São João hits its final peak, and Bolivia’s blockades fell to a 44-day low even as Cochabamba dug back in. The week ahead barely pauses for breath.

Brazil — a stuttering start. Vinícius Jr rescued a 1-1 draw with Morocco after Ismael Saibari chipped Alisson, and Ancelotti admitted “nerves were all over the place.” The 92-year unbeaten-opener record holds, but balance is the worry before Haiti (Jun 19) and Scotland (Jun 24).

Bolivia — blockades at a 44-day low. President Paz says 20-plus points came down in a day, leaving about 68 road cuts, the fewest of the conflict, with 34 million litres of fuel reaching La Paz. But Cochabamba reinforced its cuts and the COB called a Sunday assembly.

The week ahead is loaded. Colombia’s World Cup debut lands Tuesday, Brazil play Haiti on Thursday, Lima’s festival and a Buenos Aires Fito Páez night crest next Saturday, then Colombia’s presidential runoff and the Mexico City rental-registry deadline both fall on June 21.
