The defence minister warned that the situation has exposed the country’s dependence on foreign defence suppliers.
Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, has claimed that the escalating conflicts across different parts of the world, particularly the Iran-U.S.-Israeli, and Russia-Ukraine wars are hampering Nigeria’s ability to acquire military equipment needed to confront insecurity.
The defence minister warned that the situation has exposed the country’s dependence on foreign defence suppliers.
Speaking at the Nigerian People’s Strategic Conference and Defence Exhibition 2026 in Abuja on Saturday, Musa said ongoing wars in the Middle East, and Russia-Ukraine have created intense competition for military hardware, leaving countries like Nigeria struggling to secure critical equipment.
According to the minister, nations directly involved in the conflicts often place large advance orders and possess the financial muscle to secure production slots ahead of other buyers, making procurement increasingly difficult for countries seeking to strengthen their security capabilities.
