The Hindu BureauiVP Semi is planning to establish a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Coimbatore. The facility will be established in collaboration with local industries, founder-CEO, iVP Semi, P. Raja Manickam said during his graduation day address at Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) on Saturday (June 13).Advocating for a semiconductor revolution in India and the country’ transition from service-driven economy to a manufacturing powerhouse, Mr. Raja Manickam emphasised that semiconductors were no longer a luxury but a foundational national infrastructure akin to roads and railways for India.A dominant role for India was inevitable in the semiconductor industry, projected to grow into a trillion-dollar market globally. Semiconductor manufacturing, he explained, demands deep, cross-disciplinary teamwork.He attributed Taiwan’s massive global dominance in the tech sector to seamless collaboration among professionals and strong ties between academia and industry.Presiding over the event, Shankar Vanavarayar, president of Kumaraguru Institutions, said entrepreneurship potential was boundless for graduating students and emphasised intellectual and economic independence. True global autonomy warrants aggressive homegrown innovation and robust intellectual property and design capabilities, he added.Durai Palanisamy, executive director of Pallava Textiles and chairperson of Southern India Mills Association, delivered the key-note address.During the 38th graduation ceremony at KCT, 1,596 candidates of batch 2021–2025, belonging to 16 engineering and technology departments, received their degrees.
