The Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), a prominent consumer rights and civic advocacy organisation in the city, has launched its new website, mygrapa.org, providing citizens with a platform to explore the organisation’s history, achievements, and its ongoing initiatives aimed at improving civic life in Mysuru.The MGP was founded in 1989. The newly launched website serves as a digital archive of the organisation’s work while also offering information on its current activities and upcoming plans.According to Bhamy V. Shenoy, the founding working president of the MGP, the organisation has focused its efforts on three key areas — consumer rights advocacy, civic engagement, and environmental protection. Over the years, the MGP has worked closely with various government departments and public institutions, including the Police and Traffic Departments, Mysuru City Corporation, Mysuru Development Authority, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, KSRTC, District Administration, CESC, Forest Department, Consumer Courts, Indian Railways, and K.R. Hospital.The website features a pictorial history of the MGP’s activities and highlights the contributions of several activists associated with the organisation. These include the late Ramalingam, known for his efforts to secure safe drinking water for residents of Eklavya Nagar; scientist C.V. Nagaraj, who conducted over 3,700 demonstrations to create awareness about food adulteration; and engineer Prasad, who led tree-planting initiatives through the environmental group ‘Parisara’, a press release said.An ‘Inspirational Stories’ section documents key campaigns undertaken by the organisation, including efforts to oppose the proposed Chamalapur coal-based power plant and attempts to construct a ropeway on Chamundi Hills.The portal also provides access to publications on consumer rights, food adulteration, environmental conservation, energy security, leadership challenges, and urban development.
