The Chilakalapudi police have registered a case against a 26-year-old man and his family members for allegedly marrying a 15-year-old girl and subjecting her to torture.Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the police registered a case against the man and his family members under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and other charges.The victim, an orphan, alleged that the accused forcibly married her and, along with his family members, harassed her. The neighbours reportedly alerted the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) of the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department, who rescued the girl.Speaking to The Hindu, Krishna district Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu said a case under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (PCMA), 2006, has been registered against the accused.“Instructions have been issued to book those who solemnised the marriage and all others involved in the offence under PCMA,” Mr. Vidyasagar Naidu said on Saturday (June 13, 2026).“The girl was presented before the Krishna District Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
