Dindigul Corporation has urged the public not to dump garbage in the open and instead hand over the waste to sanitary workers as part of the door-to-door waste collection system.The Corporation authorities have begun displaying banners across the city with messages asking the residents to act responsibly. The authorities said CCTV cameras have been installed. Anyone violating rules would be imposed a fine of ₹10,000.The authorities have begun cleaning dumping sites and installing awareness banners. They said despite door-to-door collection of waste already in place, the people were still dumping waste in public spaces. This leads to foul odour, unsanitary conditions, and the risk of spreading infectious diseases.During rain, garbage dumped on roadsides would cause inconvenience to the public and motorists would find it difficult to travel, they said. To address this issue, the Corporation is actively raising awareness against dumping of garbage along roadsides, the authorities said.The Corporation authorities have also begun removing hoardings and flex boards from public places that were causing obstruction to the public and traffic. The authorities said the was following directives from courts and the district administration. Unauthorised hoardings will attract fines and strict action, the authorities said.
