TORONTO — The New York Yankees are already down their starting right fielder, and now it’s possible that their starting center fielder could miss time, too.Trent Grisham left Friday’s 8-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning after pulling his hamstring rounding first base on a two-run single. Grisham took second base on the throw home and signaled to the dugout after awkwardly sliding into the bag.Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he hopes Grisham’s injury is “not too serious,” but they will not know the severity until Saturday morning at the earliest. He underwent treatment on his hamstring as soon as he was pulled from the game and will continue to do so in the morning. As of now, the Yankees have not scheduled any imaging, but that could change depending on how he feels Saturday. If Grisham misses time, it’ll be the latest injury blow to the Yankees. Last week, the Yankees placed Aaron Judge on the injured list with a stress fracture in his rib. Last month, they placed their ace, Max Fried, on the injured list with a bone bruise in his elbow. The Yankees have also been without slugger Giancarlo Stanton for nearly two months after he strained his calf. But even with their significant injuries, the Yankees, along with the Tampa Bay Rays, are the only two teams with at least 40 wins in the American League.“As we’ve talked about all year, I feel like it’s one of the deeper rosters we’ve had in a while,” Boone said of his club. The Yankees could end Jasson Domínguez’s rehab assignment early to take Grisham’s spot on the roster. Domínguez has missed over a month after spraining his AC joint and has played in five rehab games in the past week. Boone said before Friday’s game that the plan was to reevaluate Domínguez on Monday, but the Yankees might need an outfielder now.Domínguez has played right field over the past few games, a position he had only played once in his professional career before his rehab assignment. With Cody Bellinger being the best defensive left fielder in MLB and Judge sidelined, it made sense for Domínguez, a below-average defender in left field, to try a new position. If Grisham does go on the injured list, the Yankees could have an outfield alignment of Bellinger in left field, rookie Spencer Jones in center field and Domínguez in right field. But losing Grisham for any time would be a significant loss for the Yankees. He has been one of the Yankees’ best hitters since the start of May. Since May 1, Grisham’s 141 wRC+ was the third-best behind Paul Goldschmidt, Ben Rice and Cody Bellinger. The center fielder had a slow start to his 2026 season after being one of the unluckiest hitters in the sport through April. His .145 BABIP was the second-lowest among all MLB hitters; only Tampa Bay outfielder Cedric Mullins’ was worse. But Grisham’s underlying metrics suggested that his batted-ball luck would have positive regression if he did not alter his process.“He’s been great,” Boone said of Grisham before Friday’s game. “I really think he’s been the same all year. Early on, he was kind of unlucky and not getting results. Now he’s getting results. I feel like the at-bats have been consistent from Day 1. I feel like he’s been a really important player to us, and it’s been good to see how productive he’s been here over the last few weeks.”The Yankees’ lineup entered Friday’s game against Toronto at exactly league average in June. And now they’ll possibly have to survive another injury to one of their top hitters.Jun 13, 2026Connections: Sports EditionSpot the pattern. Connect the termsFind the hidden link between sports terms
