The group, consisting mainly of Chinese nationals who had arrived from Cambodia, rented multiple properties in Phu Tho Province and installed electronic equipment in preparation for launching the operation, according to local police.

The group showed signs of "involvement in transnational high-tech fraud, with plans to establish a long-term operational base in Vietnam," provincial police said in a statement released on June 11.
The provincial Security Investigation Agency has issued emergency detention orders for and three Vietnamese citizens: Nguyen Thanh Long, Tran Thi Thu Huong and Pham Dinh Nam.
