A St James farmer has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon following the seizure of a firearm during a police operation in the parish earlier this month.Charged is 32-year-old Malachi Gayle, otherwise called 'Buma', of Barnett Bush in the parish. According to the police, officers were conducting an operation along Springfield Main Road on June 3 when they signalled the driver of a Toyota Mark X motor car to stop. Gayle reportedly complied.The police said a search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of Gayle and a passenger, led to the discovery of a Browning 9mm pistol with an empty magazine affixed. The weapon was reportedly found on the front passenger seat.The passenger reportedly fled the scene and escaped. However, Gayle was taken into custody.He was formally charged with possession of a prohibited weapon on June 10.The second suspect remains at large.
