A gunman was barricaded in a building in Midland, Texas, on Friday morning after a shooting that killed at least one person and left 11 victims, officials said. Officers responded to an active shooter incident in the 4600 block of West Wall Street and heard “gunfire coming from the building,” police said. Nine victims were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, a spokesperson for the hospital said. Four were undergoing surgeries and five are stable. The scene was quickly secured and the area cleared, but efforts to end the standoff remain ongoing, the city said in a Facebook post.“Our thoughts and prayers are absolutely with the victims, and with their families,” Mayor Lori Blong said at a news conference. Blong said a perimeter was established and the suspect was “contained.” SWAT is on the scene and multiple law enforcement agencies have responded.The mayor said officials have no confirmed details on the suspect or the victims. The incident is believed to have started in southeast Midland and progressed across south Midland.
