The statue of Princess Diana with her sons Prince William and Prince Henry.

I remember a particular book my mum had about Princess Diana. It was a small book with pictures and facts about her. My mum was fascinated by her and the royal family. I was in Grade 2 when I watched the funeral with my mum. Years later, while working at a PR agency in Johannesburg, we hosted a high tea and watched Prince William and Princess Catherine marry in April 2011.

Obsessed much? Not as much as I used to be, but imagine my joy when I finally arrived in London for the first time. I remember it like it was yesterday. Some cities you visit, and others feel like coming home. I fell in love with London first because of how it made me feel. I felt safe and less anxious. I slept better, and it was the first time I learnt how adventurous I could be. London felt like a place I was so excited to see, yet somehow so familiar. I knew instantly that I would be back.

Kensington Palace, in London, England.

If I could write a love letter to London, I would start by saying thank you for the architecture. Beautiful buildings and castles that have stood the test of time. Intricate details that make it hard to believe these structures were built before modern machinery and technology existed.
