Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan on Friday reviewed preparations for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) re-examination, stressing the need for seamless coordination among authorities to ensure the exam is conducted in a smooth, transparent and secure manner.The NEET re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21, 2026.Emphasising the Centre's commitment to ensuring a fair examination, Somanathan said the Union government, state governments and district administrations were working in close coordination to facilitate the smooth conduct of the re-examination.“The Central Government, State Governments and District administration are working together in close coordination to ensure smooth conduct of the NEET re-examination. The full might and weight of the law will fall on any person trying in any manner to distort, disrupt or tamper with the integrity or smooth conduct of the re-examination,” he said.During a meeting with the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Cabinet Secretary assessed the readiness of various stakeholders involved in conducting the examination and underscored the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the process.The review forms part of a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening preparedness ahead of the examination. The Cabinet Secretary had earlier reviewed arrangements with secretaries of the Central government and relevant agencies on June 1. He also held a meeting with chief secretaries of state governments on June 4 to assess the progress of preparations and ensure adequate coordination at the state level.According to the government, the consultations are focused on reinforcing security measures, improving coordination among agencies and maintaining the credibility and integrity of the examination process.The Centre has reiterated its resolve to ensure that the re-examination is conducted without disruption and that any attempt to compromise its fairness is dealt with firmly under the law.
