1. Annamalai floats political movementFormer BJP leader K. Annamalai, who quit the national party earlier this week, today (June 5, 2026) announced the launch of a “political movement”, which is heavily inspired by the ideals promoted by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.A few hours before his announcement, the BJP said its national president Nitin Nabin accepted the resignation of Mr. Annamalai from the primary membership of the party.Even as he sought time from his supporters for his political movement to evolve into a political party, Mr. Annamalai said there is “no doubt that it will face the next general election” in Tamil Nadu. 2. Vijay-led Cabinet outlines vision statements titled ‘Vetri Tamizhagam’The first meeting of the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamil Nadu Cabinet held at the Secretariat in Chennai outlined 436 vision statements of the new government under the ‘Vetri Tamizhagam Vision Document’, encompassing many of the poll promises made by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly elections.The vision document is broadly divided into 10 “pillars” based on sections of the Tirukkural such as Aram, Porul, and Inbam, and classified into 54 sub-pillars. 3. DVAC files FIR over cash-for-jobs complaint during K.N. Nehru’s tenureThe Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) informed the Madras High Court of having registered an FIR regarding the cash-for-jobs complaint in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) department during the tenure of former DMK Minister K.N. Nehru.Appearing before the first Division Bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan, Advocate General Vijay Narayan said, the DVAC had registered the FIR today after obtaining his legal opinion on the matter.4. Assembly session to begin on June 18The first session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly after Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government assumed office and won the trust vote, is set to begin with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s address to the House at 10 a.m. on June 18, announced Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat in Chennai.5. Madras HC refuses to stay circular mandating pvt. schools to display fee structure on notice boardsThe Madras High Court refused to grant an interim stay on a circular issued by the Director of Private Schools on June 1 which instructed all private schools in Tamil Nadu to display their fee structures on their notice boards.The petitioner, All India Private Educational Institutions Association, had challenged the June 1 circular, as well as Tamil Nadu Information Commission’s (TNIC) May 25 order, based on which the circular had been issued. It had urged the court to quash the TNIC’s order and the circular and stay them until the disposal of the main case.6. Torso of man found in suitcase at railway stationThe Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation after the mutilated torso of an unidentified man was discovered inside a suitcase at Perambur railway station in Chennai this morning.
