The trial against men who allegedly tried to kill advocate Coreth Naudé SC is set to start in 2027.

The trial of three men charged with the attempted murder of advocate Coreth Naudé SC, who was conducting a tax inquiry involving Andile Mpisane, the son of Durban businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, and others, is set to commence in early 2027.

Naudé and her colleague, attorney Rianda Chinnera, were conducting the inquiry on behalf of South African Revenue Services (SARS). Gunmen ambushed them in Umhlanga on July 18, 2024.

According to the State, on July 18, after the day’s inquiry proceedings had concluded, the two legal practitioners travelled in separate vehicles to the Premier Hotel in Umhlanga, where they were staying.

Upon their arrival, they were allegedly confronted by accused Siyanda Emmanuel Mbulwana and Mcebisi Corlen Runeyi, who opened fire in their direction.
