June 12 (UPI) -- Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest child of King Vajiralongkorn, died in a Bangkok hospital, the royal family announced Friday. She had been in a coma for more than three years since being taken ill with a heart condition.
The Royal Household Bureau said in a statement that Bajrakitiyabha, 47, died on Thursday evening local time despite the very best efforts of medics at Chulalongkorn Hospital in the capital where she had been a patient since collapsing while out walking her dogs in December 2022.
"The medical team provided the closest and most intensive care possible, but her condition continued to decline progressively," said the palace.
The only child from the king's first marriage, Bajrakitiyabha was a senior member of the royal family and held the rank of general and chief of staff in the Royal Security Command of Thailand, which guards the king.
