ActionSA says the GNU has expanded government but failed to deliver results, warning that unemployment has risen, infrastructure is under strain and public trust continues to decline across key sectors.

South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU) is facing renewed criticism over its performance on economic growth, unemployment, infrastructure and crime, with opposition party ActionSA rating the administration an “F” in its two-year review.

ActionSA said its assessment is based on a performance tracking framework evaluating government delivery across ethical leadership, economic growth, infrastructure, basic services, education and law and order.

ActionSA Parliamentary Leader Athol Trollip said South Africans were promised a GNU that would prioritise reform and national recovery, but argued that outcomes have not matched expectations.

He said the size of government has increased since the formation of the GNU, arguing that the executive has become “one of the largest and most expensive in the world.”
