Filming for The Last of Us season three is already underway, but the cast announcements are still coming. Deadline reports that Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman) will join the show in a recurring role as Amon, a leader of the Seraphites cult. Notably, Amon does not appear in the games; he is an entirely new creation just for the show.

Season three of the hit HBO video game adaptation will reportedly take place concurrently with the events of season two but will be told from Abby’s (Kaitlyn Dever) perspective instead of Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey). Abby is a former Firefly who joins the Washington Liberation Front after Joel (Pedro Pascal) slaughters a whole bunch of Fireflies while removing Ellie from the group’s medical facility, effectively destroying the Firefly community. The WLF, in turn, is at war with the Seraphites for control of Seattle, potentially setting Abby and Amon up for a clash at some point in season three. Jason Ritter had previously been announced as a new cast member for season three, playing a WLF soldier named Hanley. It’s not difficult to imagine that he, too, will factor into the upcoming clash between the two factions. Also previously announced as joining the cast for season three is Patrick Wilson, who will play Abby’s father, Jerry. Joel killed Jerry during his Firefly rampage at the end of season one of the TV show and at the end of the first Last of Us game. In The Last of Us Part II video game, Jerry appears only in flashbacks, which explains how the show plans to incorporate a character who’s already dead.
