Fans will need a Paramount+ subscription to watch Sunday's White House UFC event on TV. Saul Loeb / Getty ImagesJune 12, 2026 Updated June 15, 2026 6:47 am EDTWith the streaming of sports being a big political issue these days, the “Freedom 250” UFC fight would be one that you might think would show up on CBS, so the nation could see it free of charge as President Donald Trump welcomes the fighters into the steel cage on the White House’s lawn. But no, to watch Sunday’s show, a viewer will need a Paramount+ subscription, where the event will be exclusively streamed. This is by design because, though CBS has aired a little UFC, it is really a Paramount+ property. So no free TV for the event.Dana White, UFC CEO, told TNT Sports recently that the fight is going to have “Super Bowl-type numbers,” which, if you are counting the NFL’s big game ratings, would mean that there would be, on average, 125 million or so viewers. Paramount+ reportedly had 79 million global subscribers in February. White’s math doesn’t add up.Regardless, the eye-popping seven-year, $7.7 billion deal has been a big winner for UFC because no other bidders were believed to be close to those numbers. It is a better deal for UFC fans, as Paramount+ can be had for $90 per year and includes every UFC fight. Under UFC’s old rights deal, fans needed to pay almost that much for each major event on ESPN+, on top of a monthly fee. So this UFC-Paramount+ agreement is much more fight-fan-friendly.It could be even friendlier on Sunday if the fight were on CBS. It will be a spectacle, but with it on a streamer, it has no chance to reach the heights of the Super Bowl, as streamers don’t drive the awareness of broadcast and include the price obstacle.
Why the UFC event at the White House is airing on Paramount+
Despite bigger viewership numbers available on CBS, Paramount's multi-billion-dollar deal with UFC is centered around its streaming network.
