The Public Servants Association (PSA) has called on the government to urgently introduce a hybrid-work model for public servants
The Public Servants Association (PSA) has called on the government to urgently introduce a hybrid-work model for public servants, arguing that flexible working arrangements could help employees cope with rising living costs.
The call comes at a time when many South Africans are feeling the strain of persistent cost-of-living pressures, with transport, food and utility expenses continuing to eat into household budgets despite modest wage increases in both the public and private sectors.
The union tabled the proposal at the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC), saying a hybrid system could help reduce transport costs for workers who have to travel to work every day, where it is possible to do so.
The union said public servants were among those feeling the impact of escalating fuel prices, rising medical aid contributions and increasing living expenses. It added that the recent 4% salary adjustment had done little to offset the financial pressures facing workers.
