Tinubu made the announcement on Friday during his June 12 Democracy Day address to the nation, where he paid tribute to individuals he described as heroes of the struggle against military rule.
President Bola Tinubu has announced national honours for former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), veteran activists, journalists and other pro-democracy figures whom he said “suffered persecution, endured indignities, exile, incarceration, and, at times, solitary confinement” during Nigeria’s struggle for democratic rule.
Tinubu made the announcement on Friday during his June 12 Democracy Day address to the nation, where he paid tribute to individuals he described as heroes of the struggle against military rule.
Among those named for national honours are Chief Ralph Obiora, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, Joe Igbokwe, Osa Director, George Mbah, Muyiwa Adekeye, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, Richard Akinnola, Debo Adeniran, Ayo Opadokun and several others.
The President also recognised a group he described as “soldier-democrats” who played roles in the June 12 struggle, including Col. Sambo Dasuki, Col. Musa Shehu, Major General M.A. Garba, Brigadier General Lawal Jaafaru Isa, Col. Umar Farouk Ahmed, Col. Lawan Gwadabe, Brigadier Jonathan Ndam Temlong, Major General Chris Eze and others.
