People living near a fire in a warehouse in London have been evacuated while firefighters worked to bring it under control.London Fire Brigade (LFB) said around 70 people were evacuated as a precaution on Thursday night as they worked at the scene in Brent.A statement by LFB said the fire – which saw the majority of a two-storey multi-use warehouse and its roof on a business park in Oxgate Lane alight – was brought under control before 6am on Friday.People living nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed.LFB said around 150 firefighters were at the scene with 25 engines from Hendon, Willesden, West Hampstead and surrounding fire stations after more than 70 calls reported the fire.LFB said around 150 firefighters were at the scene with 25 engines from Hendon, Willesden. (LFB)Firefighters were using four turntable ladders and a high-volume pump to tackle the fire.Edgware Road was closed between the junctions of Dollis Hill and Staples Corner, with Oxgate Lane shut to traffic.The cause of the fire is not known.On Monday, a blaze at a recycling centre in south London was brought under control by around 100 firefighters.The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said fifteen fire engines attended the scene in Landmann Way, Bermondsey, after receiving multiple calls at around 5.30pm.The LFB confirmed the fire was brought under control shortly before midnight and its cause is under investigation.The firefighting continued overnight as crews worked to fully extinguish the fire, the LFB said.One man was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance service.Firefighters were using four turntable ladders and a high-volume pump to tackle the fire. (LFB)Images near the scene showed thick plumes of smoke rising above surrounding buildings and the LFB urged people living nearby to keep windows and doors closed.Two of the LFB’s 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed to the scene to help fight the fire from above.Station commander Wayne Bloomfield, who attended the scene, said: “At its height, the fire involved a large amount of refuse and the roof of a warehouse unit.“A van and a car were also destroyed by the fire. One man was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.“Due to the significant amount of smoke in the area, local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.“Loose embers were also reported, which is normal during large fires. Residents were advised to pour water onto them if they were concerned about loose embers on or near their properties, but if they did catch something alight, to call 999 immediately.”
