A 53-year-old farm worker was electrocuted after a low-tension power line snapped and fell on him while he was harvesting tapioca at a farm in Olayur within the Ammapettai police limits in Erode district on Friday (June 12, 2026) morning.The deceased was identified as S. Ravi of Sengottai Colony in Guruvareddiyur near Anthiyur. According to the police, the incident occurred around 7.40 a.m. at a farm owned by Shanti. Ravi was harvesting tapioca when a crow reportedly perched on an overhead low-tension power line between electricity poles Nos. 3 and 4, causing the wire to snap and fall.The live wire fell on Ravi while he was at work, resulting in his death on the spot. Relatives and co-workers rushed him to the Guruvareddiyur Primary Health Centre, but he was declared brought dead. The body was later sent to the Government Hospital in Anthiyur for post-mortem examination. Ravi is survived by his wife, Rani, a farm labourer, and a son and daughter.
