President Bola Tinubu has declared that he remains "hopeful" on the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State and their counterparts in Borno State, adding that "democracy without security is a mirage."

The President stated this in his Democracy Day address on Friday but he failed to mention the abduction of 174 women and children from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, one of the country's largest recent mass kidnappings.

In his nationwide Democracy Day speech, Tinubu referenced the abduction of children in Oyo and Borno states, expressing optimism that the victims would regain their freedom, while reiterating his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity.

"Though this year's mood is dampened by the abduction of our children in Oyo and Borno, we remain hopeful for their safe return. Democracy without security is a mirage," Tinubu said.
