Newly released dashcam footage captures the moment a Pasadena police officer was shot by a fellow officer in an incident that the police chief characterized as “horseplay.” The video, made public by the department on Wednesday (June 10, 2026), relates to a shooting that occurred in September 2025. The footage was captured inside a Pasadena police parking garage. It shows a patrol car pulling up behind two officers standing near another vehicle.Video footage shows one of the officers standing outside the vehicle suddenly drawing his firearm and aiming it toward the officer seated inside the patrol car. Moments later, he returns the weapon to its holster. However, the footage does not show what happened next. According to the police chief, the officer inside the patrol car also drew a firearm, which was subsequently discharged. The police chief identified the officer who was fired as Roy Alatorre. "Horseplay and/or failure to adhere to safety rules and standards of professional conduct will not be tolerated," Harris said in a video that shows the shooting, as quoted by the news outlet."This regretful conduct is not consistent with the expectations and service commitments of this department, and appropriate actions will be taken to ensure our culture reflects appropriate conduct, values, and service to this community," Harris further stated. The officer who was wounded in the shooting has since recovered and remains employed by the department. It remains unclear whether he will face any additional disciplinary action.Because the incident was classified as an officer-involved shooting, California law required the release of the video.
