Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis chaired for the first time the annual meeting of the European Stability Mechanism board of governors, in his role as as Eurogroup president, in Luxembourg on Thursday.

At the meeting, the board approved the 2025 ESM annual report and financial statements, and discussed ESM’s major activities in the past year.

ESM managing director Pierre Gramegna welcomed Bulgaria as a new ESM member; it joined in January and is expected to become a full member this month. He also welcomed Pierrakakis in his first appearance as the president (chair) of ESM’s board of governors.

Pierrakakis thanked Gramegna and cited ESM’s role in Greece’s recovery, adding that Greece was an example of what is achieved when European support meets national will.
