Palisociety – the California-based hospitality chain behind brands Palihouse, Palihotel, Le Petit Pali and Arrive by Palisociety – has landed in Beverly Hills, one of Los Angeles’ most popular neighbourhoods among travellers to the city.Earlier this year, the company debuted The Hôtel Lili. It sits under the Palisociety umbrella of properties, but is independently branded to reflect its unique positioning and close link to the neighbourhood.Located on South Lasky Drive, around the corner from The Peninsula Beverly Hills and the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, The Hôtel Lili couldn’t be more different from those swanky neighbours. Cosy, welcoming and discreet, the property is housed in what was formerly a private residence dating back to 1939.Stripe patterns are a recurring theme in the design of The Hôtel Lili’s bedrooms. Photo: HandoutWith only 44 rooms and a lovely reception area featuring a happening bar, the hotel feels like a welcoming urban hideaway, offering plenty of privacy and quiet. Its design, which stays true to the slightly retro vibe of other Palisociety hotels, is a throwback to old-world Parisian elegance. The quirky touches that have become signatures of Palisociety properties gracefully blend with the off-white and grey palette of the rooms while also adding a touch of warmth. Colourful stripes, rotary phones, velvet cushions and whimsical paintings give the living quarters a lived-in vibe that is cosy and chic in equal measure. The red velvet curtains, vintage books, marble sculptures and leather banquettes of the lobby and the bar on the ground floor evoke a grand historic hotel. Before heading out to dinner, make sure to enjoy a classic cocktail or one of the hotel’s signature drinks, including the Lili’s Martini with vodka, lychee liqueur and lemon, and the Palisociety World Famous with rye, Bénédictine, Luxardo bitter bianco and bitters.More stripes in the bathrooms of The Hôtel Lili. A small workout room is located on the ground floor while guests can take advantage of a swimming pool at nearby sister property Mosaic Hotel.Reflecting the informal yet attentive service of Palisociety, the staff is friendly and always ready to help, whether you have questions about the area or need assistance with simple issues such as how to draw the blinds at night. Much like everything else in the rooms, the blinds are operated manually, the old fashioned way. This low-tech approach – without an iPad in sight – is a welcome change from today’s technology-laden hotels. The Hôtel Lili’s lobby and bar feature many retro touches. Photo: Handout
