IRVINE, Calif. — When OG Anunoby’s game-winning tip sealed the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history and a huge New York Knicks win over the San Antonio Spurs, putting the long-suffering franchise just one win away from its first title in more than half a century, Madison Square Garden and New York City erupted in pandemonium. For a group of players about to take on the weight of a home World Cup, at a swanky hotel 3,000 miles to the west, it was the same.New York native Tyler Adams, watching the Knicks game with a number of his USMNT teammates from their hotel about an hour south of Los Angeles on Wednesday night, went nuts in a now-viral celebration. When the game-winning shot went down, Adams jumped up and over the couch he was standing at multiple times. His teammates, some of whom are Knicks fans and others Knicks haters, dogpiled on each other.“Anything could have happened in there, I’m gonna be honest,” Adams said on the eve of the USMNT’s World Cup opener vs. Paraguay (Friday, 9 p.m. ET). “I blacked out within it all.”Chris Richards and Antonee Robinson, the former just returned from injury and the latter having been removed from the team’s last game with cramps, were in the mix. Adams joked he was just happy they all made it through the celebrations and were available to train on Thursday, the team’s last session before kicking off their World Cup journey.
