Boston Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy called the team’s season “embarrassing” during his weekly radio appearance on WEEI on Thursday, noting that if the situation doesn’t improve soon, the team could be sellers at the trade deadline. However, Kennedy ultimately offered support for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.“I think it’s important here at the outset to acknowledge how embarrassing, unacceptable, maddening, frustrating — whatever words you want to use— the past two and a half months have been,” Kennedy told “The Greg Hill Show.” “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. It’s been awful, especially when you consider the stated goal of building upon what happened last season (after reaching the postseason).”Given the team’s struggles, including a three-game sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays this week that sent them to 12 games below .500 for the first time since the 2020 season, Kennedy was asked about whether Breslow’s job is safe.“I fully understand the questions about Craig Breslow and his job security and all of that, but the issue of change there, just to be clear, is not on the table,” Kennedy said. “He is working as hard as anyone to get things back on track.”
