The initial ban, implemented from 1 April in 11 car parks, aimed to tackle unauthorised camping by campervans and motorhomes, citing anti-social behaviour and increased littering. However, locals reported that the issues merely shifted to laybys and other car parks, and the restrictions also hindered parkgoers from enjoying sunrises, sunsets and night skies. The Eryri National Park Authority approved a trial at Llyn Tegid and Llangywer car parks, closing them between 1am and 3am with potential fines, while suspending the wider ban. The authority clarified that the reopening does not change the policy against overnight stays and plans a broader review to balance visitor access with addressing environmental and community impacts.
