Unidentified persons looted ₹25 lakh from retired army personnel by claiming that he was under ‘digital arrest’ in Salem.According to the police, a 65-year-old retired army personnel is residing in Edappadi. On March 5, 2026, unidentified persons, claiming to be a CBI officers, called to his WhatsApp number and threatened that his SIM card was used for anti-social activities and that he was under digital arrest. They also asked him to deposit ₹25 lakh into two bank accounts to escape from further action.Believing this, the retired army personnel deposited the amount. Later, he learned that he had been cheated. On Wednesday (June 10, 2026), he lodged a complaint with the Salem District Cyber Crime police. The police registered a case and are investigating further.
