Phoenix baker, Yadia Sookhoo has carried on the legacy of making traditional Russo, as her late grandmother did.

You may call it Russo, Rasam or King Soup. But as the cold winter nights intensify, a steaming cup of this spicy, tangy, peppery hot soup just hits the right spot.

For many of us, the art of making the perfect Russo would have faded into memory with the passing of elders in our family. Grandma, or “Amma” (Tamil for mother) as we called her, would keep the pots brewing with this South Indian origin soup.

But lucky for us, educator turned stay at home mum and home baker, Yadia Sookhoo, learned the secrets of these recipes and continues to churn out the age old russo recipe as prepared by her grandmother, Alamelamma Naidoo who died at the age of 77 in 2014.
