The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a recall of certain Hino 700 Series trucks in South Africa.

This comes after Toyota South Africa Motors notified the commission of a defect affecting the fuel pump housing on specific units. According to the NCC, the surface treatment process used during production was inappropriate, which may cause cracks to develop under repeated heavy load conditions, resulting in possible fuel leakage.

The affected vehicles were sold nationally through authorised Toyota dealerships between September 10, 2024, and December 10, 2024.

This recall applies to 18 Hino 700 Series models, the consumer watchdog said.

"According to the supplier, the fuel pump housing has an inappropriate surface treatment process done during production. Cracks may develop when repeated high load is applied to the supply pump resulting in a fuel leak."
