The Agriculture Department has directed fertilizer dealers in the district to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985, while distributing fertilizers to farmers.Addressing a meeting of wholesale and retail fertilizer dealers here on Wednesday (June 10, 2026), Joint Director of Agriculture R. Sivakumar said fertilizers should be supplied only on the basis of farmers’ cultivated area and crop requirements. He cautioned dealers against excess sales and irregular distribution of subsidised fertilizers. Noting that the Union Government provides substantial subsidies on fertilizers, particularly urea and DAP, Mr. Sivakumar said proper and need-based distribution was essential to ensure that benefits reached farmers. He instructed dealers to record all fertilizer sales through Aadhaar-linked Point of Sale (PoS) devices and maintain accurate stock and sales registers. Sales invoices should contain the farmer’s name and contact details to ensure transparency and traceability, he added.Dealers were also asked to maintain updated stock registers and display price lists at their outlets. Fertilizer stocks should be stored batch-wise, and warehouses should operate only from approved locations. Sale of unauthorised fertilizer products would invite action, officials said.Mr. Sivakumar said fertilizers must be sold only at the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on the bags. Stocks carrying old and revised MRPs should be stored separately to avoid confusion. Any sale above the prescribed MRP would attract stringent action under the relevant provisions, he warned. Dealers found violating fertilizer control regulations could face suspension or cancellation of licences, apart from other legal proceedings, he added. Published - June 11, 2026 05:40 pm IST
