Image: Sara Sundman/YleYle News14:10The Finnish Parliament has approved a law on the introduction of a citizenship test.Wednesday's votes fell 153-21, with 25 MPs absent.Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's (NCP) government already began working on creating a citizenship test last year.The government has also recently initiated other legal changes regarding immigrants, asylum seekers and expedited deportations.Soon, applicants for Finnish citizenship will be required to pass the test, which must be taken in either Finnish or Swedish. The law is scheduled to be implemented at the beginning of 2027.While details about the test itself have not yet been announced, it is expected to cover topics like Finnish history and culture, human rights, and equality.
